Last weekend’s Electropolis was an electronic orgy of Portland’s hottest, up-and-coming dance acts on the brink of prosperity and international fame in one futuristic venue. Never before has so much exciting, rising talent been compiled and the masses conceded, flipping out on the dance floor.

Featuring Arohan, Serious Business, Sex Life, Soft Metals, Starlight & Magic, Very International Love, and The Pragmatic, the night at Someday Lounge was home to spandex space costumes, rumbling synths, furious dancing, and heart-attacking inducing BPMs.

With beats so incessant and necessary like cardiac palpitations, closers Very International Love left the audience stunned. With autoclaps and electro-glory instrumentals, the dense, ravaging riffs of Connor Dudley and synth-y machinescapes built to electronic climax leaving singer Joe Turner gasping on the floor. electropolis at someday: q/a with futuristic bands from the past

Electropolis is a city in the distant future where blips rule the day and bleeps conquer the night. A place where the humans are divided–there are the dance masters and master dancers. The dance masters create electro-rhythms and force the master dancers to disco-funk and hustle to their penetrating beats.

But harmony does not reign in Electropolis. The savage, thumping packs of dance masters each battle for supreme control over the master dancers, and groups of these inhabitants have arrived in Portland.

The crusade for supreme control of Electropolis takes place at Someday Lounge on Saturday, February 6th between Arohan, Serious Business, Sex Life, Soft Metals, Starlight & Magic, Very International Love, and The Pragmatic.

very international love plays free concert with parallels this wednesday

These boys will make you shake your ass to their sleek, electro-thumping and throaty, echoing lyrics. Very International Love is the electro-dance and live experimentation of Joe Turner (tall) and Connor Dudley (small). VIL takes the stage at Peter’s Room at the Roseland Theater on Wednesday, November 18th. And it’s free to you, the electro-noise consumer.

With synths that glitter sonically and a gold-speckled guitar that sparkles physically, VIL throbs with disco-mojo as quick and catchy as any of their Aussie dance club influences (Cut Copy, The Presets, Empire of the Sun).

The pair creates an aural electro-landscape coupled with the rollercoaster climaxes and troughs of a wicked rock show.

And it gets better. Headlining, Toronto’s Parallels brings a calming wave of tranquilizing dance-ambiance. Sway to and fro with Holly Dodson’s icy-sweet vocals and faultless drumming from Cameron Findlay (who used to keep the beat on tour with Crystal Castles).
